It is located in northern Tanzania lying just south of Lake Natron in the Rift Valley, in the heart of Maasai country, and locally regarded as a sacred mountain. Looking north from it’s summit crater, the hot barren salt flats of Lake Natron stretch into the distance. To the south stretch the crater Highlands and the Ngorongoro Game Reserve. The eastern horizons dominated by Kilimanjaro and to the west the forested escarpments and hills comprising the western slopes of the Rift Valley. Every seven years Lengai erupts and plumes of smoke billow out of the crater.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, your guide will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. Where you can relax and enjoy the African atmosphere – Tomorrow morning your safari will begin!
Depart Moshi at 7:00 a.m. for Engaresero village (Lake Natron) with a packed lunch. You’ll eat lunch somewhere between the villages. You will travel north along the Great Rift Valley wall to Lake Natron and the village of Engaresero, which is located near the sacred Maasai mountain “Ol doinyo Lengai.” This will take approximately 8 hours to drive.
At very early morning 1:00 a.m. drive to the base of the Ol’ Doinyo Lengai mountain to start the climb. You will reach the summit during sunrise and spend some time there before coming down to the base of the mountain. From there, clients will be transferred to Campsite for shower and rest.
In the morning after breakfast, we will depart to Moshi with our lunch box and we will have a short rest in Arusha town. Depending on the nature of your flight and the arrangement of your itinerary. You might continue with other activities such as Zanzibar Island or time to connect with your flight back home.
